Google Places Bug Causes Repeated Phone Number

Flyswatter for Google Places Bug

Update: Scroll to the comments to see a fix if this is causing you trouble.

Mike Blumenthal reports that there is a ubiquitous bug in Google Places today, causing phone numbers to be displayed incorrectly after any Places edits. He writes:

Any Places edit seems to cause the smooshed phone number bug in Google Places. I repeat, the Places Dashboard is armed and dangerous. Do not approach, do not interact, immediately report any sitings of the smooshing bug directly to the forum.

Just chance that I have not made any Places updates recently… and expect I will wait to do anything until Google makes some sort of fix. If this really happens on any edit, it is much more common than most bugs – and will hopefully quickly be squashed.

Time to get out the flyswatter Google.

Joy Hawkins has reported a fix if this occurs to your record in the forums. If you go into the Dashboard edit mode, remove the phone number from the phone number field and add it back in and save the record, the display of the phone number will return to normal.

I had to do this two times for it to work. But it did work!

However, at the time of the controversy surrounding the ban of the event, he released
a statement that lumped the Miss Landmine contest with “efforts by individuals or organisations sponsored by foreign governments to impose esoteric social experiments on Cambodian women with a disability. Stenciling is another great painting technique and is not too difficult. Likewise, the failure to properly mark an electronic document (PDF) when it is created exposes the document to the to virtually the same risks. If your counts are not the same, then you can check the invitations to see which one is either missing an insertion, or has an extra insertion, and still correct it, but once everything is correct, then you can seal your envelopes.
